WHAT ZEOLITE IS
Zeolites are hydrated crystalline aluminosilicate minerals were created millions of years ago when after volcanic eruptions large quantities of aluminosilicate ash deposited in environments where there was alkaline water. The interaction of this aluminosilicate ash with the alkaline water and the existence of suitable conditions of pressure and temperature have resulted in the creation of zeolites.
The significance of the zeolite for various uses is in the formation of its crystalline structure. The structure is tetrahedral and in three-dimensional imaging is celled with the creation of large cavities. These cavities are filled with water molecules and cations. These are having the ability to move within these cavities and to be exchanged with other cations without affecting the crystal structure of zeolite. This property is characterized as ion exchange capacity and it is very important for the quality of zeolite.
Generally, the amount of water can absorb a zeolite is up to 60% of its weight.
In nature are found more than 40 species of zeolite (volcanic and sedimentary rocks) from which 20 are located in the sedimentary deposits. The zeolites that occur most frequently are: clinoptilolite, mordenite, chabazite, analcime, phillipsite, erionite and heulandite. The most important of these is the clinoptilolite. Also, more than 150 synthetic zeolites have been manufactured for various uses. The most known is zeolite A (usually used as a laundry detergent), zeolites X and Y (used in catalytic cracking) and oil catalyst ZSM-5 ( a trade name for the pentasil-zeolite).

USES OF ZEOLITE
Generally, the uses of zeolites vary. Our company's products mainly targeted for agricultural and livestock uses. Their uses in these categories are discussed further in the respective sections of our web site. Briefly, some of the other uses of zeolite are for softening systems (ion exchange filters) and water filtration, as cat litter, in the neutralization of radioactive wastes and to clean soil contaminated by toxic heavy metals, as structural materials, in paper industry, etc.
Generally, it can be found in four types depending on the granulometry, for different uses, such as:
1) As powder in order to spray the foliage.
2) Size 0.0-1.0 mm. As food enrichment for livestocks.
3) Size 1.0-2.5 mm. In agriculture, malodor absorption, birds feed, filtration of drinking water.
4) Size 2.5-5.0 mm. For agricultural use as soil fertilizer, as improver in chemical fertilizers at the rate of 2-5% (slow releasing), in hydroponics, without excluding the use of previous as most active.
QUALITY - PRODUCT CERTIFICATION
Our zeolite products are certified with ISO 9001 (certification for "Product and sale of products made of natural zeolites for agricultural. Industrial, constructional, environmental and house use") and FAMI-QS (Certificate for code of practice for Feeds Addictive and Premixture Operators). These certificates prove that our zeolite products can be used for all the above uses.
All our products are certified with qualitative and quantitative checks.
Olympus SA is one of the few companies of the sector where despite the import and marketing of zeolite products placing major emphasis on the exploration and exploitation of new zeolite deposits in the Greek territory. Olympus SA has already the license of exploration and exploitation for two concessions for zeolite in Petrota, in Evros prefecture.
The preliminary test results which obtained by the research that indicate that the quality of the zeolite in the concession is very good (content in clinoptinolite is > 85%). The industrial production of zeolite from this concession is expected. In the second area which is under exploration the results from chip rock sampling tha t have been done were also promising (content in clinoptinolite is > 90%). The main quality of the ore will be better described only after the implementation of the exploration project. In exploration project, excavations are planned in order to examine the quality of the ore. The exploration works will be start after May of 2017.
